The popularity of cocktails is soaring worldwide, as people discover the excitement of fusion tastes and colours in their drinks; and the distinctive flavours of American whiskey are adding much-needed depth to the growing cocktail movement.
Try these much-loved traditional cocktails, or opt for newer, more exotic blends, built on the robust flavours of American whiskey.
45ml Bourbon, American Rye or Tennessee Whiskey
One teaspoon simple syrup/or one sugar cube
2/3 drops of aromatic bitters
Mix sweetener with bitters in an Old Fashioned glass. Add the whiskey with a splash of water, mix and then garnish with a twist of citrus fruit.
4 – 5 Mint sprigs
2 sugar cubes or a dash of simple syrup
In a glass, muddle the mint and sugar well, bruising the mint leaves, to dissolve the sugar and release the flavor of the mint. Add the bourbon. Fill the glass with crushed ice and stir well. Garnish with a mint sprig.
20ml Bourbon or Tennessee Whiskey
120ml apple juice
1 stick cinnamon
Garnish with a slice of apple/cinnamon
